took on the b*astard beach that spat me out back in Jan. Three regulars
out when I arrived - all three v.good sailors - and they looked to be
having fun. The launch looked fine this time so went to get my kit. PaulP
turned up and impressively got down to rigging without his bottom lip
wobbling at all. Just as we were about to pick our kit off the lovely
grassy rigging area, two of the guys came in swearing it was the biggest
they'd sailed it and admitting defeat. They were on 4.0m and 4.2 and the
guy left out was on 3.7 - we had rigged our smallest sails, me 4.5 and Paul
4.8
Still, had some demons to banish so went for it and yes I was massively
overpowered, but it was fine. Huge areas of white water, but they were
pretty easy to miss and well spaced. The ramps were huge, so heaven for me
and Ray was ripping up the waves so plenty of rideable stuff, but wasted on
me. Only bummer was twisting my ankle landing nose first. Managed a
couple more runs after that, but foolish really and the thing is giving me
hell now.
Big respect to Paul. He took a beating from a mountain of water, a bit
like Robbie in the Pipeline - one minute he was sailing along, coming in.
Next thing, this monster just came up behind and ate him. It spat his kit
out quite far away from him so was a bit worried, but he appeared on the
beach about 10 mins later with a fair walk back. He walked back to the
launch spot and went for it again - top drawer effort
Top day, really chuffed I went for it.
